Drawing on a participatory arts-based study of (non)belonging among refugee-background young people in regional locations in the UK and Australia, this chapter explores the role of the natural environment in providing continuity with the past, a contemporary space of sanctuary and a foundation for the future.

One dimension of this is access to and engagement with the natural environment. At the same time, regional resettlement offers connections and opportunities less easily accessible in metropolitan contexts. This has significant implications for refugee-background young people, whose intersectional marginality as young people and forced migrants risks being compounded in regional settings.
